A Guy Named Brook

HEY YOU!!!

I was walking down the hall at church the other week I heard someone calling for Brooke.  I assumed it was Brooke since we have two women named Brooke in our congregation and I have been burned too many times by people calling for their daughters.  Consequently, I didn't even turn around.  After the calling got closer and closer to me and persisted I thought it might be for me.  Sure enough it was.

Am I subconsciously resigning myself?  Am I buying into the mindset that new people I run into seem to have that this can't be a guys name and for me I just think, "They can't be talking to me".

Losing the Battle

The number of females named Brooke that I encounter is becoming exponential.  I was the only Brooke I even encountered through grade school and even in college.  There was the Brook that was a freshman when I was a senior in high school and there was Brooke Shields on TV since I was young, but that was it.  The latter didn't really count, cause she was on TV and if it did count it was an even count, on Brooke girl and one Brook boy.

In my early years of marriage I started having people call my name in public places, only to find they were chasing their toddler daughter, but those were just a handful.

Lately every time I turn around there is a Brooke and occasionally a female Brook.  Right now I have two Brookes in my congregation at church and it appears as though there is a female Brook in the congregation we share the building with.
